Jorduggla

Pine tree, 2021

In collaboration with Galleri Svarta Gran, Konstfrämjandet in Dalarna organized Art Run, a three-dimensional experience where art, forest and exercise met. Participating artists: Elin Båve, Jens Masimov, Elin Magnusson, Andreas Sandberg, Marja-leena Sillanpää, Kristin Ylikiiskilä Broberg.

During the exhibition Art Run, which took place at Stångtjärn in Falun in September 2021, I made a site-specific work inspired by the Short-eared Owl. It is a medium-sized owl that prefers heathland, bogs and wetland. The female boldly lays her eggs straight on the ground. As a way to get to know and get close, I study the animals and carefully carve them in wood. Exactly where the owl was placed, the young forest turns into old forest. It becomes a turning point, a passage. At the same spot there was an info sign about Short-eared Owl, saying that they like to build their nests in similar lands like this one. The skeletal parts are composed like an altar. Maybe over transience, maybe over the forest and its cycles, or maybe they simply are old parts from the owls prey.

Art Run is part of Konstfrämjandet’s project Skogen mellan oss, with the support of the Postcode Foundation, the Swedish Arts Council and the Region of Dalarna.
